Trojan.Win32.Diamin.jn

tag:Trojans

The Trojan modifies the Internet Explorer home page:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "Start Page" = "http://wqw.supertraffic.info"

The Trojan copies "%System%\drivers\etc\hosts" to "%System%\drivers\etc\hosts.nv".

The Trojan adds the following string to "%System%\drivers\etc\hosts.nv":

207.44.196.219 auto.search.msn.com #NETVISION

The Trojan creates the following system registry key parameters:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\{0888cac2-2b33-11dc-b3da-806d6172696f}] "BaseClass"="Drive" [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\{0888cac5-2b33-11dc-b3da-806d6172696f}] "BaseClass"="Drive" [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\{7c201192-759e-11dc-9d38-806d6172696f}] "BaseClass"="Drive"

If the computer has a modem, the Trojan will modify its configuration and download files from the Internet without the knowledge or consent of the user.

If your computer does not have an up-to-date antivirus, or does not have an antivirus solution at all, follow the instructions below to delete the malicious program:

  1. Delete the original Trojan file (the location will depend on how the program originally penetrated the victim machine).
  2. Delete all files created by the Trojan: %WinDir%\Netvision.exe C:\Documents and Settings\\Desktop\Internet.lnk C:\Documents and Settings\\Main Menu\Internet.lnk C:\Documents and Settings\\Favorites\Internet.lnk C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Internet.lnk %System%\drivers\etc\hosts.nv
  3. Delete the following system registry keys: [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "Fast Track" = "Netvision.exe"
  4. Delete the following system registry key parameters: [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\{0888cac2-2b33-11dc-b3da-806d6172696f}] "BaseClass"="Drive" [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\{0888cac5-2b33-11dc-b3da-806d6172696f}] "BaseClass"="Drive" [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\{7c201192-759e-11dc-9d38-806d6172696f}] "BaseClass"="Drive"
  5. Revert the Internet Explorer homepage.

This Trojan has a malicious payload. It is a Windows PE EXE file. It is 29392 bytes in size. It is packed using UPX. The unpacked file is approximately 52KB in size. It is written in Delphi.

Installation

When launched, the Trojan copies its executable file to the Windows directory as "Netvision.exe":

%WinDir%\Netvision.exe

In order to ensure that the Trojan is launched automatically each time the system is restarted, the Trojan registers its executable file in the system registry:

[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "Fast Track" = "Netvision.exe"

The Trojan then creates the following shortcuts:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Desktop\Internet.lnk C:\Documents and Settings\\Main Menu\Internet.lnk C:\Documents and Settings\\Favorites\Internet.lnk C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Internet.lnk

All these shortcuts point to the copy of the Trojan:

%WinDir%\Netvision.exe

The shortcuts have the following appearance:
